Ancaster Film Fest Presents Oscar Nominated Film
On Monday April 22, the Ancaster Film Fest presents the Oscar Nominated Foreign Language Film from Chile, No, starring Gael Garcia Bernal (The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel).
Screenings are the Ancaster Silver City at 1:00, 4:00 and 7:15 p.m. with the box office opening at 12:15, 3:15 and 6:15 p.m. Non-member tickets are $9 for the matinees and $10 for the evening screening.
The year is 1988 and the Chilean people have forced a plebiscite to be held to determine if the ruthless dictator, Pinochet, will receive 8 more years of rule. Gael plays Rene, a Chilean advertising ‘Mad Man’, who takes on the task of trying to convince a wary and frightened public to vote ‘No’ while securing his family’s and his country’s safety. The problem is how to run the advertising campaign. The film is director Pablo Larrain’s third film on life in Chile during Pinochet’s rule and is based on real events. The film also won the Art Cinema Award at Cannes in 2012.
The Ancaster Film Fest is a member of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Film Circuit, comprised of some 180 organizations screening the best of international and festival films with proceeds supporting charitable or community needs.
