The Ancaster Horticultural Society’s monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday February 18th, 2014 at 7:45 pm at the Ancaster Old Town Hall (300 Wilson Street).  A coffee and tea refreshment social begins at 7:30 pm  followed by the meeting at 7:45 pm.

The Ancaster Horticultural Society welcomes guest speaker, David C. Naylor to this month’s meeting and his presentation is “Growing Cactus & Succulent Plants”.

David Naylor started growing cactus and other succulent plants in England at the early age of 15. He moved to Canada in 1957. By trade, he is a telecommunications engineer. In 1977 he founded the Toronto Cactus and Succulent Club. He is a long-term Past-President and currently holds the positions of Treasurer, Membership Secretary and Newsletter Editor. He is a member of numerous societies around the world specializing in these plants. A succulent plant show judge accredited by the Cactus & Succulent Society of America; he judges internationally and locally at Canada Blooms, the Home Show’s Successful Gardening, the CNE, the Toronto Cactus and Succulent Club and other horticultural shows. He also teaches Cactus & Succulent judging at the Royal Botanical Gardens and gives presentations internationally at succulent plant growers’ conventions and is well-known as an expert with these plants. Mr. Naylor has grown almost every species of cacti and other succulents and is creating new cultivars for growing indoors as well as hardy outdoor ones for our Canadian climate. His other hobbies include genealogy, photography and computers.

All are welcome to attend monthly meetings. Admission is free. Registration is not required.
