Ancaster Horticultural Society’s monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday October 22nd, at the Ancaster Old Town Hall,  310 Wilson St. E., Ancaster.  A coffee & tea refreshment social begins at 7:30pm followed by the meeting at 8pm.  The Society invites guest speaker Mr. Rick Dowson and his presentation is, “Welcoming Winter Birds to Your Garden”.    …. As seasons change, birds’ backyard needs change as well, and savvy backyard birders will prepare their yards to be safe, comfortable and healthy for winter birds. Birds may not need a lot of nesting materials in the winter, but carefully prepared bird-friendly landscaping can help augment the other steps backyard birders take to prepare their yards for winter birds.

Born in Belleville ON., Mr. Dowson is a well known ecologist & biologist who earned a

Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Ecology & Animal Behavior and English at The University of Western Ontario. He also became a  teacher and lecturer (Peterborough Teachers’ College) and has educated children of all ages including Conestoga Community College students in biology and ecology.

Mr. Dowson has worked  with the Grand River Conservation Authority running nature centers for many years.
