Here’s the spring buzz on the Plant Sale of the Year! The Ancaster Horticultural Society’s Annual Plant & Bake Sale, the major fundraiser of the year, will be held on Saturday May 21st, 2016 from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. The location is the same as usual, the Food Basics Plaza parking lot on Wilson Street in Ancaster. This year the Sale will feature Pollinator-friendly plants and resources from the Hamilton Pollinator Paradise Project. The Society hopes to encourage home gardeners to help pollinators by creating pollinator-friendly habitats in their own gardens. Pollinator-friendly plants will be labelled with brightly coloured markers for ease of identification. In addition, the Society plans to build several pollinator “hotels” for display.

Here is a list of some of the plants you’ll find: Perennials (such as Coneflowers, Penstemon, Hyssop, Bee Balm, Milkweed, Phlox, Rudbeckia, Aster); Native Plants (such as Vervain, False Indigo, Butterfly Weed); Flowering Shrubs (such as Ninebark, Butterfly Bush, Viburnum, St. John’s Wort); the usual Heirloom tomatoes, Potted Herbs and a variety of home Baked Goods such as cakes, pies, cookies & muffins.

Donations of plants are welcomed and appreciated (please no invasive plants such as Gout Weed, Knotweed, English Ivy or Ribbon Grass)
